Lectures

Event Overview

Prior to each SCMS Festival, we commission a Preview Lecture from a local musical expert, which is related to the programming of our upcoming concert series. Topics are varied, and can include musical themes, biographical sketches of composers, or the history of musical forms.

The lecture is presented at several area locations, including retirement communities and social clubs. We strive to offer at least one presentation in a public setting. If you are interested in hosting an SCMS Preview Lecture, please contact our Director of Education.

2019 Summer Festival Preview:
Music from the Heart of Europe: Enescu, Dvořák , & Kodály

Seattle Chamber Music Society’s (SCMS) Summer Festival brings together the finest musicians in the world, offering twelve exceptional chamber music concerts and a fun Family Concert during the month of July. To prepare us for this incredible festival, SCMS and Town Hall present a special preview discussion celebrating the work of Central European composers, including Georges Enescu, Antonín Dvořák, and Zoltán Kodály. Conductor and composer William C. White takes the stage to explore the lives of these musical titans and offer us a preview of works featured on the upcoming SCMS Summer Festival. Then, pianist Angela Drăghicescu takes her place at the piano for a culminating performance based on her extensive study of the music of Enescu. Sit in for a preview of the SCMS Summer Festival and a performance by a talented pianist.
